" OMG! the extension fell off together with my natural lash, Is that normal?" - Shower's thought on the first night after the appointment
Yes, It is normal, as long it fall off with only one natural lashes, that is totally fine. It just mean that the natural lash had come to the end of its cycle and shed. New baby lashes will emerge and growth to become an adult lashes, and then ready for the new extensions.
On the daily basis, we shed about 3-5 lashes. Because the lashes are so light and thin, we wouldn't see them as they shed. But when they attached to the noticeable extensions, it is easier to spot them here and there.
Let me take you to behind the scene of the lash cycle.
The lashes growth and shed naturally with the cycle of 3 phases as the describe in the picture below.

Anagen phase is about 30- 40 days where the lashes is actively growing from baby lashes to become adult lashes. About 40% of our upper lashes are in in the anagen phase.
Catagen phase is about 14-21 days. At this stage, the lash hair follicle will string and the lash will stop growing.
(If the lashes got pull or pluck out at this stage, the new lashes won't grow back immediately until the lash cycle is complete. Therefore, carefully isolation is very important when lashing. Repetitively pulling, plucking or wearing a bad application over the time will cause hair follicle is damage which lead to lash thinning ans bald spot.)
Telogen phase is about 100 day. This is known as the resting phase, the lash follicle shrunk completely and disconnected from the blood supply. Lash will fall out when it ready to shed. This is call the natural lashes shedding.
FACT: it takes about 4- 8 week to replace all of our natural lashes. it is varies depend the individual. Some have a faster/ slower lash cycle. Thus, it is normal to loose about 3-5 lashes daily.
Therefore, the full set last about 4 weeks, For a client who had a faster cycle, by the end of the fourth week, there isn't many extensions left because most of them had been replaced.
The longer you go in between appointment the longer fill appointment need to remove/ replace old extensions and apply new extensions on new grown lashes.
How often should you come back for a refill ?
Depending on your preference of the fuller or natural look.
Ideally, I recommend to get the extensions refill every 2 or 3 weeks together with following the aftercare instruction and washing the extensions daily to keep them clean from the natural oil and make up debris. This will help extend the life of the extensions overall.
